    I had shoulder pain for a while due to lifting and calisthenics. I think actually alternating between active and passive hang is the best and has had a dramatic effect on my shoulder. I used to only passive hang for 10 mins per day and this didn’t help. As soon as I started to active hang and build greater scapula stability and lower trap activation, my symptoms started to clear up.

I'm going to get obsessed with the glute and tailgate swinging exercises. I like how you put it that way. It might just take that level of dedication. Thanks for making the video.

    You have no idea how helpful this video has been. I do deliveries to make ends meet. So you can imagine how I’ve had to walk with a torn meniscus on my left knee. Limping and limping to do my job. To sum it up I could kiss you for your teachings I can walk pain free. And whenever the meniscus gets out of alignment, I do the therapy over and over. I’m grateful 🎉❤

    Hi Doc! My mother has arthritis on her shoulders and upper spine, can she do these shoulder exercises? Her therapist has her reaching over her head, often painful for her.

    I have many of the symptoms described however my scalene doesn't feel tender or sensitive. My SCM on the left side of my neck however has several knots and crepitus. Does this sound like cervical radiculapthy?? Thanks for the video

    Both my shoulders are torn severely at 67....I don't even know what to do re: continual pain, along with hump back, my head is hard to hold up w/o pain and very little strength. I also have a Cyst on c, 6-7. I've been in physical therapy for 2 yrs. Any suggestions. The epidural shots rarely help.

    Aren’t you at risk of developing frozen shoulder if you don’t continue to use the shoulder ? I have had a near-full thickness tear of supraspinatus for a year. But when I took a few weeks off of any strenuous activity (i.e. playing Pickleball!) i started developing frozen shoulder! Now i am dealing with trying to do range of motion exercises (thru PT) to “thaw”out my frozen shoulder problem. Any thoughts would be much appreciated

    Hi, I have been experiencing extactly this type of pain in one of my knees for the past year. I used to wear soles in my shoes, which after the pandemia I stopped wearing them as I thought the sneakers with moldable foam soles as they come would replace the prescribed soles. When you said the cause could be in your hips or feet I had to think about it. Thank you for your comments.

    Why shoulders hurt when you lay down ten years ago had two surgeries well 3 shoulder surgeries. And I haven’t had a good night sleep. Now dislocate one. The sling hurt me more.

    Yes! I need another Dr for sure! I suspected this before nevertheless you, Sr , gave me the courage to move on, I am in the wrong orthopedic clinic. This Dr has never touch me or my knee spend 2 minutes telling me I need surgery and move on to the next patient! It’s lots of people with surgery at these clinic and must of them when I ask them, tell me “ to avoid the surgery at all cost” ! So I am educating myself! Thank you for the education. This is exactly what Drs should be doing educating us to have a Healthy life out of the hospital and surgeries! I have lost 5 pounds with a complete change yo a healthy diet and zero! Sugars!     Thank you for this! I got a menisectomy and was told I would be able to walk pain free 5 days post surgery. Total lie. I’m on week three and the swelling is not getting better. They’ve drained it and told me to ice more often and add compression. If I had known this would make my knee worse I would’ve kept pushing through with physical therapy therapy. I was doing PT 3 months prior to surgery and it was a very slow progress, but that slow progress was def better than this. This is too painful and too swollen to do anything 😢 before I was able to walk for an hour before feeling immense pain, now I can’t even walk for 3 minutes. I wish I could go back 😢💔 why can’t surgeons be more honest. Why can’t the discharge instructions be more honest

    I was in agony for five weeks. Once I had the mri report I sought some answers on line. I saw Dr. David's videos and they were remarkably helpful. Within 24 hours my pain diminished substantially. I no longer needed to take the anti inflammatory medication. Your hard science approach was the way to go.Thank you Dr.David!!

    I had severe shoulder pain and mri showed I had a labral tear. (type 2 Slap tear). My shoulder doctor had me do the 4 way thera-band exercises. No improvement at all. The next mri showed I had a new rotator cuff tear in addition to the previous labral tear. The doctor recommended surgery and was more than happy to do it. That seems like a potential conflict of interest. I got another opinion and ended up having rotator cuff repair w/bicep tenodesis about a month ago.

    The rotator cuff muscles rotate and do not just serve to provide stability. Also the body is not just muscle or connective tissue. Our bones are structure. You overhead press while keeping your shoulders down and away from your ears to use your structure for stability and balance. Just like you also overhead press without rib flare so you maintain good body alignment and create pressurization while lifting to brace yourself. If you do the opposite to recruit the traps more so than you would naturally do when reaching for something without overthinking your body's natural neurology, you will eventually mess yourself up since you are trying to just use the muscle of your body without exploiting your structure. You should overhead lift without introducing areas for leverage that will pull you off balance so I strongly disagree with his trap recruitment cue of letting the shoulder travel away from you when reaching. The bottom line is if you are a normal person, don't train as a bodybuilder and train rotation. Look to use your structure and earn your strength progressions. Favor training implements like kettlebells and dumbbells that do not constrict the shoulders while overhead pressing like barbells do. Favor pushup and crawling variations over bench press. Use your common sense and do not compromise your structure to reach for things. Some things he says sound fine but other things just make me raise my eyebrows.

    What can I do? I have been fit most of my life lifting heavy things regularly. My max lift off the ground is 350 kilos, above my head 102 kilos/224 pounds, when I was younger. I am now 67 years old with various health issues. One of them being,i recently came off my mountain bike on a forestry trail. Dislocating my collar bone at the shoulder.7 weeks later i still struggling to lift my arm up over my head. My GP said I have arthritis. I didn't suffer with it before the accident because I had a x-ray 3 weeks before to find out that I had court hopping cough. Were you can clearly see the shoulder looks fine.
